LAKE FOREST, Calif., August 14, 2006—Vue Technology, Inc., the leading provider of RFID networking and item level solutions, and Symbol Technologies, the Enterprise Mobility Company, (NYSE:SBL), will unveil two bundled item-level RFID offerings for the retail industry this week at the AAFA Apparel & Footwear Summit in New York City. The companies will introduce a cost-effective handheld solution for item-level RFID; and an integrated handheld/smart shelf solution that enables item-level RFID to deliver continuous and widespread inventory visibility.
Both solutions run on Vue’s TrueVUE™ RFID Platform, and leverage Symbol’s high-performance RFID hardware to increase same store sales, employee productivity, and the accuracy of inventory data and replenishment capabilities while reducing inventory shrink.
“Across the globe, retailers have been sorting through the hype of RFID in search of a solution that will enable them to cost-effectively reap the long-promised benefits of item-level RFID,” said Robert Locke, CEO of Vue Technology. “Leveraging Vue Technology’s unique RF networking platform along with Symbol’s RFID hardware and tag solutions, retailers are finally able to take that important first step to jump-start item-level RFID initiatives that will improve store operations and employee productivity.”
The RFID handheld solution will enable retailers to reduce the labor costs associated with inventory counts, and provide increased inventory visibility through periodic inventory “snapshots”. This is an ideal solution for small scale applications and provides retailers with an introduction to the benefits of item-level RFID with minimal investment.
The RFID handheld/smart shelf integrated solution can provide a valuable balance of continual, real-time inventory visibility for high-velocity, high value items along with inventory snapshots for slower moving items. The frequency and breadth of inventory updates yields the greatest benefits to retailers through increased revenues, and reductions in labor costs and out-of-stocks.
“Together with Vue Technology, Symbol is now able to provide rapidly deployable high-performance RFID item-level solutions that can deliver a quantifiable return on investment to retailers and an improved shopping experience to their customers,” said Anthony Bartolo, vice president and general manager of Symbol’s Wireless Infrastructure and RFID Divisions.
Vue Technology and Symbol will debut both solutions in a live demonstration at the AAFA Apparel & Footwear Summit, August 15 and 16, at the Fashion Institute for Technology in New York City.
The bundled solutions will include all of the necessary components for a successful end-to-end item-level RFID pilot or deployment including TrueVUETM RFID software, EPC commissioning system, RFID handheld and fixed readers, smart shelving, RFID tags, PC/server, installation, training and support. Pricing for the handheld-only solution starts at $35,000 while the integrated RFID handheld/smart shelf solution starts at $75,000. Both solutions will be available for purchase in October 2006.
