Lake Forest, CALIFORNIA, December 19, 2005 –Vue Technology, the leading provider of item-level RFID technology, today announced that AMR Research has identified targeted RFID item-level tracking as having the potential to creating sales and margin improvements in the retail environment. In a report issued last week, AMR Research detailed the potential impact of item-level inventory tracking in reducing out-of-stocks and improving the overall customer experience.

While many retailers have begun RFID implementations at the case and pallet level in response to mandates by Wal-Mart and others, there has been a struggle to translate benefits into measurable ROI.
According to the December 9, 2005 AMR Research report, titled “Targeted RFID Merchandise Tagging: A New Approach to Item-Level Tracking,” “Where the great return is going to be found is with high-ticket products that contribute to both market basket increases and overall margin improvement.”

The AMR Research report also states, “RFID-enabled item-level inventory tracking pilot projects yield stock availability improvements of over 50% in targeted merchandise categories, with store-centric labor investments necessary to manage stock and handle replenishment lowered by as much as 15% to 20%.”
Retailers have identified several roadblocks to achieving significant benefits from RFID at the case and pallet level, including the need to reduce training and maintenance costs, improve reporting capabilities, increase inventory visibility and improve inventory replenishment and demand/promotion management capabilities.
